Already having scored a massive hit with their breakout single “Feel the Love”, U.K. drum and bass group Rudimental go it again with vocalist John Newman on “Not Giving In”. The single which was released last week, also had vocals provided from another UK singer Alex Clare, who best known for his recent hit “Too Close”. Additionally, remixes by drum and bass DJ, Loadstar and electronica DJ, Bondax, are featured on the single. (I personally favor the Loadstar Remix)
The song itself starts of quietly, with Clare providing tender and soft vocals over a twinkling piano. However, as the track progresses his vocals begin to get louder as the beat begins to kick in and trumpets begin to blare. As the beat quickly builds up, it abruptly drops and shifts over to a fast-paced breakbeat that continues as Clare is supported by a number of backup vocalists. Near the end of the track John Newman comes into the song with his smooth and rich vocals in addition to some low-bass wubs.
To me their newest single is just as good as their breakout single “Feel the Love”, as it has all of the necessary components of what makes a good drum and bass song (an energizing beat, quick breakbeats and an uplifting vibe). Already the song is doing quite well on the charts worldwide as it has reached No. 1 on the U.K. Dance Chart and has reached the Top-40 in several countries such as Australia, Scotland, New Zealand and Belgium.
It all makes for an energizing and inspiriting track that has an inspiring message that says, “this time I ‘m gonna be stronger/I’m not giving in.” Hopefully, Rudimental will continue to release several more great singles in the coming months, as they are one of the most visible drum and bass groups right now.
